The wonderful Phra Athit road which hosts beloved restaurants like Roti Mataba (just next to Wing N’Ting) and beautiful cafes like Jaywalk features now another venue that has us raving about it: welcome Wing N’ Thing!
The restaurant is occupying one of the narrow shop houses in the street with 2 storeys, the ground floor being neat and bright with a prominent bar, while the first floor is a bit darker and more like an artsy pub with some rather strange wall paintings. The place is comfortable and homely and that reflects the food that is offered.
The menu is actually very limited: fried chicken, some appetizer and side dishes like cheese sticks, french fries or mash potatoes, a tom yum pizza, fish nd’ chips, fried calamari and two kinds of grilled cheese sandwiches (roast beef or bacon).
The fried chicken (6 pc for 160 baht, 10 pc for 250 baht 24 pc. for 560 baht) are crispy and very tasty and a delight all around. There is a number of dipping sauces to choose from and our favorites were the wasabi-mayo and the tom yum. French or curly fries are also good and we preferred the grilled cheese with bacon over the beef. The cheese is dripping and tasty with mushrooms and a nice salad on the side.
The tomyum pizza is also very good, spicy and tastes, like the tum yum dipping sauce, fresh and actually home made.
The only dish that we didn’t like too much were the calamari as they were rather thin things that got lost in the batter and were a bit too bland. We haven’t tried the fish nd’ chips just yet but we are excited to do so when we next visit which is hopefully sometimes soon.
The drink menu offers some interesting cocktails, a Bacon Blah Blah for example (bourbon with lime juice, syrup, egg white and bacon oil). The bar however is focusing on gin drinks and this is what we went for…. and we were partially happy with, because the drinks that are served are rather on the sweet side so if you order them specifically not too sweet then you should be happy.
We were at least with our not so sweet elderflower gin and tonic!
